Short-circuit products: how and where to buy them
When we have our own constraints (time, budget, diet, transport, etc.), we need solutions to suit our individual requirements. No problem: the producers and artisans of Scarpe-Escaut offer you a very broad range of products as well as lots of different ways to get your hands on them: markets, individual or collective shops, or even door-to-door sales. In Scarpe-Escaut, it is easy to choose short-circuit products for most of your purchases!
Straight from the farm: Most farmers who sell their products on a short-circuit basis have set up a small shop on their farm to welcome customers. Their opening hours tend to be more regular than those of markets, and by contacting the producer in advance, you will undoubtedly be able to find the right time to visit the farm and find out all about the products you wish to buy. |
What to do next: • Consult the interactive “Consume locally” map (link) • Download the Hainaut Cross-Border Nature Park producers directory (also available from town halls and tourist office)
|
At farmers’ markets: Several communes in the Park regularly host farmers’ markets, where you can make multiple purchases, discover new producers and sample their products. Once a month, the Scarpe-Escaut Producers’ Association (link to article + APSE site) even organises a bustling and friendly market on the farm of one of its members. | What to do next: • Regularly consult the latest news from the Park, or the Facebook page for the Scarpe-Escaut farmers’ markets (link) • Download the various calendars: Rieulay (l) and Hornaing (l) markets, Halles CAPH (l) markets, farm markets (l).

At a group sales outlet: Group sales outlets allow consumers to find lots of products in the same place, with more practical opening hours. The price of the products sold here includes the shop’s operating costs, while still remaining reasonable. | Where to go: • “La Ferme de la Scarpe” (link) in Saint-Amand-les-Eaux, which involves several organic producers and is open every Saturday morning. • In Rieulay, check out the artisanal produce shop run by the “farmers’ market” association |
From some artisan caterers and restaurants: Several restaurants and caterers in the territory have concluded an agreement with the Regional Nature Park, and offer special “Scarpe-Escaut” menus based around local, seasonal products. | Where to go: • The caterer “Autrement bon” based in Millonfosse (l) • The “Croix ou Pile” restaurant (Marchiennes) (l) •“Le Chaudron de Céline” (Bellaing) ? |
