3.5 million park residents
France’s 48 Regional Nature Parks represent 15% of French territory (7 million hectares!) and are inhabited by some 3.5 million people (30% of the population of predominantly rural areas in France). 72,000 farms and 320,000 businesses operate there.
With 262,800 residents, Ballon des Vosges Regional Nature Park is the most populous. Quite different from that of Queyras, which only has 3000!
Covering an area of “only” 48,500 hectares, Scarpe-Escaut is the smallest Regional Nature Park, but, due to its large population, also the mostly densely populated.
